The Nursery | Our Home

Finally, I have had these pictures for at least a month! Here's what you've all been waiting for... the nursery reveal.

I still have a couple of "honey-do" items for the hubby - like a ladder to hang all of Parker's blankets on and a wall of "racks" to showcase the books we've been collecting and receiving from friends and family. Parker is so spoiled.

Because his clothes are so tiny, I chose to put his dresser in the closet with all of his clothes. I think a closet with shelves, drawers and a spot to hang would have been a better idea... his wardrobe is bigger than mine.

It's the little details and punches of colour that I love. The tickle monster kit actually has wooly mitts and a story book - I can already hear the shrieks of laughter. And the new football was a baby shower gift from my coworkers, all signed by them rather than a card.

I'll be sharing the rhino details soon on the blog. Thank you hubby for your craftiness... If only we had time - I would love to sell these in all different shapes on the etsy shoppe.

This bear looks so cute nestled in the corner. And of course, I put together all of the art that sits on the grey dresser - the dinosaurs were actually on lollipop sticks from his baby shower. I removed a few and made the large piece of art you see in the back.

I love the old football. And of course the many other little animals that are found throughout.

This Paddington Bear is very special to Parker - it was given to him from his Great Grandma!

Well that's the nursery - thanks for stopping by. Up next on the house tour is the "formal" living room. It's almost complete - just need to have some photos printed and hung and we'll be done. Oh and I will definitely put together a before and after for the nursery so you can see what was done.

Before and After | Nursery Wardrobe Makeover

Get ready for it... I'm pretty excited about this Ikea wardrobe. From the purchase, to stopping by and picking up some paint from The Sugar Post in Merrickville, ON, to putting it all together in place... Here's the before and after on one of my favorite projects to date!

Where to begin? We had the perfect little nook in our Nursery for a wardrobe and I knew exactly what I wanted. I searched Kijiji for a couple of months, but each one that was under $100 was always sold before I could snatch it up! Until, one day, it was like the heavens opened up and there it was. It's short too - perfect for our little guy. And even better, it came in at $60 dollars! I had already pinned the color I wanted and just had to find me some paint.

In my parts of town, milk paint isn't easy to come by. I thought I'd have to trek into the city to get some but something told me to Google it first. The hubs and I planned on spending a relaxing day shopping in the local towns, Merrickville especially - it's full of stores that a blogger would love. Okay any woman in their right mind would love this place. I searched up milk paint and there it was, The Sugar Post carrying Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint - sold! I dragged the husband out for the day and I fell in love.

The store was too cute! I will definitely have to do a blog post on it when I have a chance to go back and take some pictures of it's adorable setup. It's like a bloggers dream store - okay maybe like the store I could only hope of having one day. I'll definitely be going back for more.

As you can see, SNEAK PEAK.... the nursery is coming together. We picked up these cute little wooden figures from the local SuperStore. The painting is by my grandma. And, the iron owl was a gift we gave to my hubs' grandma in the past and she has downsized so we got to have it back!

Of course, the decor wouldn't be complete without a football and a little OshKosh stuffed bear. I can't wait to grab some newborn photos using these as props.

Oh... I almost forgot. The hubs hates painting and let me tell you he loved using milk paint. We did two coats mixed evenly with water and a final with the paint watered down even more. I love the imperfections. We are supposed to put a final coat on it but I really don't want to. Oh ya, and the knobs were stolen from another dresser we recently did over. We changed the bottom drawer to only need one and these worked perfect. They were already distressed we just popped them on.

I can say I am in love. It's the perfect piece of furniture for the nursery - yes I will be sharing pics soon. Only a couple more details and the room will finally be done! Can't wait... the little guy is almost here. In the meantime, if you haven't already... you must go try using milk paint on something - you'll fall in love. Oh ya, and take a trip to Merrickville and stop by The Sugar Post - it's a must!

Progress, Progress, Progress!

It's everywhere... and I mean everywhere when I say it. We've been super busy these past couple of weeks getting ready for... well, everything!

I don't have pics yet, but the basement has been fully organized, one bedroom setup, the other partially. The storage room is organized! (Of course, we have lots of renos left down there... but it looks good for now!) All of my crafting stuff and office has been moved down and the nursery is well underway. Trust me - I spent a good hour the other day caulking all of the trim - BORING!!!

We've also started the furniture for the nursery - I know, about time! Here's a peak... I'm thinking of doing a dresser (we picked up a free one last year) painted like this... only I had the red and white paint purchased and now I'm thinking something else... I guess we'll both have to wait and see what I decide on.

We also bought a little Ikea cabinet/wardrobe off of kijiji that is the perfect height for our little guy as he gets older... and I got to try my hand at milk paint for the first time. Let me tell you... my hubby HATES... and I mean HATES painting and he loved this stuff... Here's a sneak peak at the color.

Oh, and did I mention the mantel is well on its way to being finished! I came home from work last night and the b-i-l had been working away all day on it! Yes he knows how to break into our house... and I'm so thankful he does. The excitement to be able to decorate... I'm so simple sometimes! :)

night photos suck.

Well... that's pretty much it for now. Rumor is my mom is having a baby shower at my place this weekend for family... so we're going to be busy, busy, busy wrapping up all these projects in time!

It's Crib Time | The Nursery

At nearly 5 1/2 months and a belly barely starting to form... I think it may be time to start looking at getting some baby stuff. We have picked up a stroller/car seat combo and luckily had a few things dropped off from family. But really, we've got nothing. So... I finally gave in and made the purchase of what is the beginning of our nursery. The crib.

Actually, here's what it will really look like (it's in the mail):

With our dark floors and light walls, I'm just not too sure I can handle the oak color. But, that is what they had, it was on for almost 50% off, and I love the sides of it being solid. So... I'm left contemplating... should I paint it?

I'm thinking the color in the first picture is definitely gender neutral and adds that awesome modern touch to the room. I also have a dresser I picked up for free last summer that I want to paint dark gray and put numbers on it. (Sort of like the one in this post).

Oh, and did I mention. The hubby may just get a wardrobe added to his "to-build" list? We have the perfect little nook in the corner of the room, glass doors displaying kids toys and books would be perfect! And... let's not forget I have to do something about a chair. The one I bought for the nursery fits perfectly in the formal living room and I'm not sure I can move it now. ERR.

Anyways... back to my question. To paint or not to paint? What are your thoughts? Here are some more colorful cribs... maybe one of these colors instead?

Tell me what you think. Will I have my work cut out for me and is it actually safe to paint a crib? I'm reading it's okay as long as the paint doesn't contain led. Oh, and I will hopefully have some before pics of the nursery coming up and a little post on the few things we have so far. All you mommies out there... maybe you can give me your must have's when I get to it!

Oh yes, one more thing. Next week is the ultrasound... I think I've given into the hubby. We don't know what it is so far, so what's a couple of more months? My fingers are crossed the baby will show us on his/her own though! ;o)

Me and My Pinterest... The Nursery

Just when I thought things would slow down... we got a puppy! I will be posting pics within the week! In the meantime, I thought I'd do one of my favorite posts, what's up on my Pinterest. The other day I posted on my personal Facebook, to get a puppy or not get a puppy... The response was actually not that surprising, many people said have a baby! The hubby and I have been married for two years and together for ten, so we are very used to people asking when the baby will be arriving. And, while there are no plans in the making (heck, we've got our whole lives ahead of us), I do have a Pinterest board dedicated to "when I have kids". So, until the day comes when we actually choose the baby rather than a puppy, here are a few nurserys that are to die for:

Okay enough of the baby talk. While I do have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to when I have kids, it's still not time for anyone to get too excited. We are not onto the baby talk yet and don't plan to be for a while. And for those of you have been following my Pinterest for a while now, know that I have had that board the whole time... which I'm sure has been close to a year already. So, it's all in preparation for the day when we are ready. Until then, we will stick to our new puppy Hank, who I can't wait to show you and I'll try and be back tomorrow for a Favorites Friday, but just in case I get caught up in life, have a great weekend out there!

11 Days Later... I'm Finally Home!

After waking from a 17 hour sleep this morning I realized I'm home! Finally. Most of you would say 11 days in Las Vegas would be amazing, but it wasn't all fun in games. Most days were spent working over 12 hours and it wasn't until the last two days that I finally got to relax. Anyways, I'm not going to complain about that, I'm actually really excited to get back to life and back to you guys on my blog.

It's back to concentrating on selling our house - we now have four houses we're looking at, two of which especially stand out. I'm excited to get back to martha.anne - that means Pinterest, writing, cooking and having fun. I also have a client who I have to make a logo for ASAP - on my to do list for today! I have missed this world that I have neglected for the past month or so.

Before I left, I told most of you that Ry's grandfather wasn't well, unfortunately he had passed away on Easter morning. It was hard to leave for Vegas with everything that was going on and he will truly be missed. We spent that last few weeks visiting him constantly and before that we always made a Sunday visit once or twice a month. Days fishing, him showing us his garden and listening to his stories will never be forgotten.

On to a lighter note, I have finally logged back onto Pinterest. I know I've been MIA for a while, so here is a great start back to what I hope is a week full of blog posts, a few of my favorite pins I have already pinned today:

A Beautiful Nursery.... From Jenny Steffens Hobick

I know I don't have kids or any plans for one in the near future, but I couldn't help but go gaga over Emma's Nursery by Jenny Steffens Hobick. Soft & cuddly, pale blue & cream, lambs & sheep. It's absolutely adorable with that baby feel in a modern cozy setting. Anyways, I'll stop bragging about the beautiful work she did and just show you a few of my favorite pictures she posted.
