DIY | Halloween Oreo Pops

Just in time... the perfect little treat for your kids. I definitely don't have the patience to make enough to give out at Halloween - but I'll just blame that one on being preggers. Anyways, I created these cute little Halloween Oreo Pops... which are completely DIY, and I did them in less than 30 minutes this afternoon.

What you'll need:
Makes Six.

6 Oreos
6 Lolli-Pop sticks
1/2 Cup Orange Chocolate Chips/Wafers
1 Tube Black Icing (get the hardening kind - I didn't and it doesn't look as good)
1 Foam Block
1 Spoon (or something to help you spread the chocolate)

First, melt the orange chocolate chips or wafers in the microwave, as directed on the package. Once melted, put a little on one side of the Oreo, place a stick on it and then finish by coating that same side with more chocolate (I used a spoon to coat the chocolate). Put in the fridge for 5 minutes or until chocolate is hardened.

Next, remove the Oreo Pops from the fridge and coat the others side and edges with the remaining chocolate. You may need to remelt the chocolate first. Then place the pops in a foam block upward and return to fridge for another five minutes or until the chocolate has hardened.

Finally, remove from fridge one last time and use your black icing to decorate. If you're using the icing that you warm and let harden, return to fridge. I just used regular icing as I wasn't going to package them.

That's it! You're all done. For extra family fun, let the kids help decorate with step 3. These would also be great for a kids Halloween Party as an activity. Up next for Halloween Treats - my favourite... Popcorn Balls. I'll be making those this weekend! :)

I went partying :)

Pin Attempt - Halloween Pumpkin Carvings

Happy Halloween!! Can you believe it is already the end of October and Christmas stuff will be hitting the shelves at midnight tonight? Although I love Christmas, I'm not sure I'm ready for it to be here in two months. So, for today, I'll concentrate on Halloween and the pumpkins we carved last night - two of them are from a Pinterest pin I did a while back (found here). And I must say they (this pin attempt) turned out great... of course, I drew and I had the hubby carve out all the hard parts... so I can't take full credit!

Safe trick or treating tonight! And be sure to save your pie pumpkins... I will be sharing my fresh pumpkin and pumpkin pie recipes soon.

Popcorn Ball Recipe with Marshmallows

Mmm Mmm Good! My absolutely favorite part of Halloween is popcorn balls made with marshmallow. As a kid, there was a lady around the corner who we could always count on getting one from every year. A couple of years ago, I was taking my niece around Trick or Treating and we stopped at her house. A handful of candy was given out until she realized it was me. She quickly disappeared into the kitchen and came back with two popcorn balls - one for me! I was thrilled, I didn't expect any candy let alone a popcorn ball. It was like heaven and a little piece of childhood restored in me.

The next year, I didn't want to miss that great taste I always had… so I decided to make my own. And, without a doubt, they are still the greatest treat ever. So, I warn you now, they are very messy to make but well worth the taste. Here's the easy popcorn ball recipe made with marshmallow I dug out again this year and used:

Marshmallow Popcorn Ball Recipe

1/2 cup of un-popped popcorn kernels
6 tbsp butter (I used buttery becel)
5 cups of marshmallows (tiny ones are easier to work with)

Pop your popcorn! You may use a paper bag in the microwave, some oil in a pan on the stove or, what I did, a popcorn maker. When finished, put popped popcorn in a 9x13 pan. Be sure to avoid putting any un-popped kernels in with it. Next, melt the butter in a sauce pot on low heat. Once melted, add marshmallows and continue to stir until they are melted. Remove from heat and pour mixture over popcorn. Now, comes the messy part. Mix the marshmallow mixture and popcorn until coated well. Then, cover your hands in butter and form popcorn balls. The recipe I used says it will make 8, but depending on the popcorn that turns out, some batches only made 6.

Now enjoy! And, keep it quiet that you made them or else you'll have unexpected guests knocking at your door for some! :D

It's "Favorites Friday" | Pumpkin Inferno

We finally made it to Friday... and "Favorites Friday" at that. I'm breaking the rules today and not only picking five of my favorite things at Pumpkin Inferno, I'm showing you the pictures that turned out. Yes, I admit, I suck at taking pictures at night... I still need to learn what setting to use on the camera.

For those of you who don't know what Pumpkin Inferno is, it's a large display of pumpkins that are carved into many different things... And, usually multiple pumpkins put together to create one large scene. It's located at Upper Canada Village (Eastern Ontario) and last night we finally made our way down there. For those of you who do know what it is and are still planning on attending... HERE IS YOUR WARNING: you may not want to look at the rest of this post and save yourself for the surprise. Although I have only captured a few of the displays, I found that all of the posts on Facebook lately had revealed most of the pumpkins we saw. Now that I have made my disclaimer, here are just a few of the amazing displays:

Pumpkin Inferno - Pumpkin Carvings

Pumpkin Inferno - Mermaid

Pumpkin Inferno - Moose

Pumpkin Inferno - Dragonfly

Pumpkin Inferno - Skeleton Hand

Pumpkin Inferno - Cowboy

Pumpkin Inferno - Cowboy

Pumpkin Inferno - Soldier

Pumpkin Inferno - Chinese Lanterns

Pumpkin Inferno - Just Buried

Pumpkin Inferno - Owls

Pumpkin Inferno - Mother Nature

Absolutely amazing. I'm so glad we went and if you haven't - you must! It's incredible, especially knowing that students designed and carved all of the displays. Anyways, I have a busy girls night ahead of me with Magic Mike. I hope you have a great weekend!
